About

SOTA (Summits On The Air)

SOTA is an award scheme for radio amateurs that encourages portable operation in mountainous areas.

SOTA (Summits On The Air) program was launched by radio amateurs John, G3WGV and Richard, G3CWI, encouraging radio amateurs to go in nature and establish radio contacts from the summits. The summits that are included in the SOTA program have the SOTA reference. In the SOTA program, therefore, all radio amateur operators as well as SWL radio amateurs can participate, it is not just for mountaineers. More about the original SOTA rules can be found at the following address: https://www.sota.org.uk/Joining-In/General-Rules
The SOTA program allows you to win awards as activator (those who climb to the mountain tops and make radio contacts from the summit) and hunter (those who are at home, or open space or perhaps activator on one of the mountain tops).

SOTA is fully operational in nearly a hundred countries across the world. Each country has its own Association which defines the recognised SOTA summits within that Association. Each summit earns the activators and chasers a score which is related to the height of the summit.

9A SOTA

In Croatia, the SOTA program started on 1 November 2015, and the first 9A SOTA manager was Drago, 9A6NDD. The first activations of 9A SOTA summits were done by Slovenian radio amateurs. In the following years 9A SOTA peaks were also activated by Croatian radio amateurs. On July 4, 2018, Drago, 9A6NDD, left the management of the 9A SOTA program to Boris, 9A2GA, a member of the Radio Club HFF 9A1WFF. From the year 2018, 9A SOTA program was more actively promoted by 9A2GA and other Croatian radio amateurs. By the end of 2018, more than 150 peaks in 9A were activated (out of a total of 507 in Croatia, divided into 5 areas: Western, Eastern, Mountain, Primorje and Dalmatian Croatia).
The 9A SOTA ACTIVITY DAY is held twice a year, and 9A SOTA MEETING is provided annually.

Since the 9A SOTA program is largely related to nature conservation and protection, since 1 January 2019, Radioklub Hrvatska Flora Fauna - 9A1WFF initiates the issuance of 9A SOTA diplomas. This cooperation with 9A1WFF club will help in the promotion of 9A SOTA program and SOTA Summits On The Air original program as the 9A SOTA Association is the member of SOTA Summits On The Air program https://www.sota.org.uk/
